HOW DOES A SPEECH THERAPIST EVALUATE A TODDLER?

At Speak Easy Mobile Therapy, our speech therapist evaluates toddlers in various ways based on the focus of the assessment. For example, if a child is referred due to concerns about their language development and meeting specific milestones, the evaluation process may include:

  1. Parent/Caregiver Interview: We begin with an interview to gather essential background information about the child, including their developmental history. Questions may cover health history (e.g., any chronic ear infections?), birth details (e.g., was the child born prematurely or with low birth weight?), and family history (e.g., any known language disorders in the family?).
  2. Child Observation: Our therapist may observe the child in their natural environment. In settings like school or daycare, we watch how the child interacts with peers. During one-on-one therapy, we assess how the child communicates with their parent or siblings who may be present.
  3. Formal Assessment: If any concerns arise during the initial evaluation, we may conduct a formal, norm-referenced assessment to gain further insights into the child’s speech and language abilities.
At Speak Easy, we are committed to providing thorough and compassionate evaluations to support your child’s communication development.
WHEN SHOULD YOU START SPEECH THERAPY FOR A TODDLER?

At Speak Easy Mobile Therapy, we understand that early identification of speech disorders in your child is essential. The longer a child struggles with speech issues, the more difficult it can become to break those habits.

The ages of 0-4 are some of the most critical years for speech development, making it vital to consult with a pediatric speech pathologist during this formative time. Our expertise can help you confidently determine if your child needs speech therapy, setting them on the path to effective communication and growth.
HOW DOES SPEECH THERAPY FOR TODDLERS HELP?
At Speak Easy Mobile Therapy, we view speech therapy for kids as focused practice in speech and language, specifically tailored to address your child’s unique speech disorder. While the methods for children differ from those used with adults, the core principle remains the same: effective treatment relies on repetition and practice at home. Overcoming speech disorders takes consistent effort, and developing proper speech habits is essential for toddlers, kids, and adults alike.

Our pediatric speech therapy sessions include one-on-one interactions that concentrate on correcting commonly mispronounced sounds and words, directly targeting your child’s speech challenges. Additionally, practicing the techniques learned during therapy in your spare time can significantly enhance your child’s progress; the more time you invest in addressing these skills, the more likely your child will overcome their speech disorder.

In the long run, successfully addressing a speech disorder can lead to increased confidence and reduced feelings of embarrassment or frustration. Enhanced communication skills will make it easier for your child to connect with peers, positively influencing their personal and professional lives. At Speak Easy, we’re dedicated to supporting your child on this important journey toward effective communication.
